Wild Sex (Passionate Peacocks) in Iguazu Falls

While waiting for a late taxi to the airport, I witnessed the hotels two resident peacocks during their mating ritual. First the male raised his dazzling array of feathers then shook them feverishly at the female. The female continued her aloof behavior of peeking at the ground and then as if a silent telepathic message was emitted from the male, she tried to run; the male sprinted after her, grabbed her by the back the neck feathers with his forceful beak, put her face down in a full submission position, mounted her by placing his sharp talons on her stubby wings then entered her from behind. The whole act took only a few seconds, but it was a surprising display of force for such a beautiful and graceful bird.
