The Significance of the Name Rio Joseph Jester

The most unexpected and miraculous part of our world tour was finding out that Angele was with child.  Traversing from one continent to another, our baby was a world traveler even before he was born!

While in Rio de Janeiro, we learned the exciting news that we were having a boy.  One of the most special moments during our time in Rio was feeling our son move for the first time inside Angele.

To some people, Rio is a city in Brazil, to others, Rio means “river,” but to Angele and I, Rio means precious life, because it was in Rio where we first felt a little life move inside her…  A life created out of the love we share.

One of the most loving figures in the Catholic faith is St. Joseph, father of Jesus.  There is a shrine of St. Joseph holding the baby Jesus near our flat in Malta.  When we first arrived, we often walked past the shrine, wondering who lit its candles and watered its flowers every day.  One evening, Angele and I were taking a stroll and noticed a man tending to the shrine.  He lit the candles and arranged the flowers; when he was done, he made the sign of the cross and appeared to say a prayer.  In that moment, we felt as though we were witnessing the peace and love of St. Joseph.  In that moment, we knew that we wanted St. Joseph to be Rio’s patron saint.

Searching for a name that was as special and genuinely unique as the life we created, the name Rio Joseph embodies all that we treasure and hold dear to our hearts.
